Going to Lake Abraham
Frozen methane foam is one of the most fascinating natural phenomena to catch your eye. The bubbles freeze along with the process of freezing the lake at the beginning of winter. It looks like it’s far away to reach Lake Abraham, but getting there is half the fun.
Lake Abraham is easily visited during your trip north or southbound travel, just a short way from Icefields Parkway. We recommend traveling south on Icefields Parkway. Because it’s not busy and leads to main events, Banff and The Beautiful Lake Louise.
For this trip, fly to Edmonton, the capital of Alberta. This city was truly amazed with its many cool restaurants, bakeries and bars.
It’s about a 3.5 hour drive to reach the Canada Rockies either from Edmonton (to the south) or Calgary (to the north). There is only one road to Lake Abraham, and that is David Thompson Highway (H11). This is taking off the Icefields Parkway.

When can you see frozen bubbles? At Lake Abraham?
Winter hits Alberta in October, but the frozen bubbles of Lake Abraham are influenced by Mother Nature. A safer bet is to visit for December, January and February as it gets gradually colder during this time of year. The ice formation process varies widely from year to year depending on temperature. So, before you do the trek, make sure the ice bubbles are already frozen.

Making it here will spoil you with an untouched landscape, especially in winter. There are several places to stay in the area. Aurum Lodge Crop selection. Travelling through IceFiilds Parkway
This adventure is part of a larger adventure known as the Ice Field Parkway. This beautiful winter road trip encapsulates everything there is to explore in remote parts of Alberta, and, surprisingly, winter is low season. This is not only the perfect time to experience frozen lakes and ski slopes, but the low season means you can escape the summer crowds.
