Do you know the bucket list you’re following the clicking sound? Now, you can add another “We need to do it in Africa” to this. Flying through Victoria Falls with Microlight is undoubtedly one of the coolest experiences you’ll find in the world, and perhaps one of the closest experiences you’ll end up mimicking what it must be to become a bird… Or at least the true definition of “bird vision.” This is how it went down…
Flying through Victoria Falls
For those unfamiliar, Victoria Falls is located in South Africa on the Zambia-Zimbabwe border. It is one of the world’s most famous waterfalls and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, standing high at 355 feet. This is not the tallest waterfall in the world, nor the widest waterfall, but it is the largest waterfall in the world in terms of height and width. Therefore, it should be a means to do everything on your travel bucket list.
There are many popular activities to reach both Victoria Falls and the Zambezi River (the Runthrough of the Waterfall), but the most popular of these is flying the waterfall by either a microlight or a helicopter. I chose the Microlight, wanting to get a real feel of the waterfall from above.
…with Microlight
This was one of the best experiences you have in your lifetime and certainly the best way to experience the waterfall.
You can ride for 15 or 30 minutes. The latter will add a 15-minute viewing game (Wildlife) from the top. However, the 15-minute ride also includes ample opportunity to see the wildlife below, including elephants, crocodiles and plenty of impalas. If you’re lucky, you may even see a cat while flying along the Zimbabwean side of the waterfall.
The 15-minute flight costs USD 170. You are not allowed to take your own camera, but after the trip you can buy the photos for a reasonable $20 (it’s much better anyway as it includes the microlight in the frame)!
to you! What is the best travel experience of your life?
