Check-in: Serengeti House in Tanzania

We arrived from six flights from Australia and arrived at a remote Serengeti House in Serengeti National Park in northern Tanzania. After more than 36 hours of troublesome flights and nights during transport in Dar es Salaam, I was delighted to throw myself onto the big sofa waiting for me as I came out of a Safari Land Rover that had transported myself and two friends from the private air strip to the Serengeti House.

The moment we walked home, we knew we were at the ultimate dul for a few days thanks to the incredible chefs who not only sourced local food for us to try, but also raised their own local produce in the on-site garden. Add that to Waiter Khalid’s “can do” attitude (6am every morning there is 6am every morning, and there’s a smile to say hello to us until late in the evening after dinner), and you have a Tanzanian hospitality combination that’s difficult to stroll around.

Inside the house

The house itself consists of a large living space and two spacious bedrooms, making it perfect for two sets of couples. However, there are two additional cottages on either side of the house to host four more guests in each cottage, as the house is provided to guests for exclusive use. I was totally lucky so I landed my cottage on a walk just 10 metres from the main house. This gave me more privacy with the option of going home for a meal and chatting with girls with a glass of foam.

The interior of the Serengeti House makes it very peaceful and relaxing. Set to a completely neutral tone, you feel weightless, the house blends perfectly with the surrounding colors of nature.

Food: Ah, food!

Constantly calling personal butlers was new to all three of us, but we also completely dulled having our chefs on hand to meet all our needs! Breakfast, lunch and dinner can be seen with tables filled with lots of options to suit our dietary requirements, but the staff were sure we would finish off all the extra food that we didn’t suit at all.

Breakfast will be a normal spread of continental offerings, including pastries, yogurt, fresh fruit from the garden, and homemade muesli. The eggs were ordered as you wish, and one of the days we visited took the time to visit the local village that supplies eggs to the Singa facility.

Lunch is a selection of salads, vegetables and meats for girls (I was always very kind as I am a vegetarian!) Dinner was my favorite meal of the day as I was able to try hearty local dishes such as curry and slow cooked vegetables.
